In 1959, Capitol Indemnity Corporation began operations in Madison, Wisconsin becoming the first all-line Fidelity and Surety stock company organized in Wisconsin since 1926.

In 1965, Capitol Transamerica Corporation was formed becoming the first insurance holding company in the state of Wisconsin.

On January 4, 2002 Alleghany Corporation purchased the Companies.
